Construction drawings are the latest art form to be turned into art by a man who is now on the verge of winning the grand prize in Australia’s best-known architectural competition.
The construction drawings were produced by David Garney, an acclaimed architect and architecturally talented man, and have already won the Art Prize in the United Kingdom and the Art Directors Council of Australia Award in Australia.
“I’m thrilled to be here,” Garney told ABC News Radio’s Insiders program.
The Australian Government is considering awarding the award to Garney after a two-week tender period opened in January.”
There are only a few other countries that have had a chance to do this, but I’m thrilled that I have it now.”
The Australian Government is considering awarding the award to Garney after a two-week tender period opened in January.
The design competition is an annual award given to Australian architects to select the best architectural works.
The Art Directors Awards are a major industry event in Australia that attracts over 100,000 attendees.
Garney said he hoped the winning drawings would be made available for public viewing.
“If it’s the right place, I think it will be a really important piece of art, especially given the fact that it’s a long time before we’ll be able to see the drawings,” he said.
“Hopefully we’ll see some of them in the museum, which is quite nice.”
The winning drawings were created in partnership with the local government of Melbourne and are on view until June.
Gar, a British-born and trained architect, has a master’s degree in architecture and has worked on a number of major projects.
Gar said he was excited to be working on the drawings, and that he wanted to take a moment to thank the city of Melbourne, which he said had been very supportive of the project.
“They’re an absolute joy to work with, and it’s great that they’re coming on board to give me the support that I need,” he told Insiders.
“We’ve had a lot of good conversations, we’ve had the right people who are all interested in what I’m doing and who will support me.”
The winners will be announced on May 28.
